| Twenty-four touches is an instructional concept based on educational research findings and reported by Robert Marzano in What Works in Classroom Instruction ( Robert J. Marzano, et. al., 2004). Practicing correctly mastered skills and content in a number of different way leads to a higher rate of retention. In the Gibson County School District, all teachers are expected to monitor a student's practice and to monitor their own teaching strategies. These are tracked by individual teachers. As one approaches the 24th touch, retention may exceed 90%. Speed and accuracy increase as well, and the results may be seen in higher achievement scores. Students learn in different ways, and a different "touch" is often needed to help the individual student. |
