Dana Welch

My name is Dana Welch and I am honored to serve on the Gibson County Special School District Board of Trustees.  I was educated in this school system and am proud to give back to my community, and the schools, by serving in this capacity.  I value small community schools and the role that community and parents alike play in the education process.

I was born and raised in the Yorkville community and graduated from Yorkville Junior High in 1985 and Gibson County High School in 1989.  I married Michael Welch in 1990 and we purchased a house and made our home in Yorkville where we have been for almost 18 years.  We have two children, Maddie, age 8 and Rebecca, age 5.

I have been employed at Komatsu America Corp. in Ripley, TN for 16 years.  During this time, I have held various roles and currently manage inventory for Komatsu’s US distribution network.  While working full-time, I attended college at night and obtained both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree of Business Administration.

Gibson County Special School District has an excellent school system that we should all be proud of.  Our teachers and administrators have accomplished unprecedented results in recent years. As we prepare today for our tomorrow, it is critical that our board continues to recognize the changing needs of students and should strive to prepare them for the higher expectations they will face in college and/or the workplace.

Some of my beliefs concerning the school board’s role in educating our children are as follows:

·        I support the mission of GCSSD which is to provide our students with a quality education in a safe learning environment, where teachers teach our children not just how to walk but where to walk.

·        I recognize the board’s responsibility to balance conflicting objectives of financial stewardship and leading edge education.

·        I believe education is a partnership between the school system, communities, and parents.

·        I believe that students should receive a quality education experience that sets high expectations, offers positive encouragement, and are treated with respect.

I am very proud of my education at Gibson County Special School District and want to ensure that we continue the strong tradition of quality education for generations to come.
