Band
The Dyer School Band program begins in the 6th grade with the Beginner Band,
where students learn the musical skills they need to become members of
the Junior High Band. The 7th and 8th grade Junior High Band
learns more advanced musical concepts and participates in several
performances throughout the year, such as Murray Quad State Honor Band,
UTM Honor Band, Solo & Ensemble, All West Honor Band and the annual
Christmas and Teapot Parades. Both the Beginner and Junior High
Bands present a Christmas and Spring Concert each year. The Dyer
Band booster Organization funds uniforms, some instruments, travel and a
yearly band banquet for the students. The band program is under
the direction of Mrs. Leah Jean Rollins.
New!
The Instrument Rental Meeting for all sixth grade students
wishing to enroll in Beginner Band will be this
Tuesday, August 19, 2008
at the
GCHS Library
between the hours of
3:30
and 7:00 p.m.
All parents of sixth graders need to attend or make other
arrangements to either rent an instrument for their child,
bring an instrument they already own to be checked
out (you can also bring it to school to show Mrs. Rollins)
and purchase the necessary accessories like band book, care
kit and folding music stand for at-home practice.
Beginner band instruction begins on
Wednesday, August 20th during 6th period at Dyer School so
your child needs to have their instrument with them by that
day. Every
day they do not have an instrument they will fall behind on
learning.
7th and 8th
Grade Band Parents
be aware that step-up instruments can be purchased on Rental
meeting night as well. Bring your beginner instrument with
you for evaluation and
trade-in. Do let Mrs. Rollins know if you are going to do
this so she can alert the music store to bring the appropriate
step-up instruments.
T-Shirt Design Contest:
This contest is
open to any band student in the 7th and 8th
grade to design our 2008-2009 Band T-shirt. I am open to any
and all ideas and will have the
designs judged by an impartial person from out of the Dyer
community. The winner will receive a prize of $10.00 and
their picture in the Tri-City when the t-shirts are printed.
If no
design submitted is deemed suitable then I will choose one
from a professional catalog. But I know there is artistic
talent in our band! Encourage your child to submit a design
for
consideration and help them to come up with a catchy slogan
or wording. DO NOT PUT THEIR NAME ON THE DESIGN. Deadline for
designs is August 29.
This is also the deadline to
have t-shirt order form turned in.
P.S. Parents are welcome
to help with designs!!
Band
Dues are being collected now ($25) which includes your
child's band t-shirt. Please send those to school with your
child in their book bag in an envelope to be safe. They can
also give them to Mrs. Beth in the office for safe keeping
until band class.
New Band Books for
2008-2009 are $10.00 or $16.00 for percussionists.
8th Graders may already have this book - check with your
child before sending this money.
