Creating a (Home) Web Page

With Word (XP)

 

To begin your Web Page: 

1.      Open Microsoft Word                                                                                                                               

2.      Click on File>Save as Web Page…

3.      Double click on your Web folder.  (If you do not have a Web folder, create one with the Create New Folder Icon.)

 4.      After File name: erase what is there and type the word: index.  (The home page only will be named index.  All other links will have different names.)

5.      In the Save as type field, select Web Page, Filtered (*htm, *.html) & Click Save & Yes

6.      Click on Format and then, Theme...  Choose a theme for your Web Page. 

7.      Click on the center align button and type a title for your Web Page.  Change the Color and size if you wish. 

8.      Press enter and click on the left align button 

·        To add text simply type the information you wish to put on your page. 

9.       Add graphics   

·        Before you insert a picture, put your cursor in the spot where the picture is to be placed (Right, Left, or Center)

 ·        Two ways

o       Click Insert> Picture> Clip Art   and select a picture

o       Click Insert> Picture> From File> Userdocs>  

·        Download a graphic from the Internet

o       Right-click on the image

o       Click on Save image (or picture) as…

o       Next to Save in: Find your Graphics folder (If you don’t have one, create it)

o       Next to File Name:  Change the name, if necessary to something that you will remember.  The file extension (the part after the dot) should remain the same

o       Click the Save button. 

10.  Save your work from time to time.   

11. To add a table

A.     Click on Table>Insert Table

B.      Select the number of columns and rows for your table.

C.    Type your information, pressing the tab key to navigate from cell to cell.

D.    Resize the cells in the table by pointing to the lines until the cursor changes to a double arrow.  Hold down on the mouse button and drag to resize. 

E.     Click anywhere in the table, then bring down the table menu to manipulate the properties in your table.
