Dear Parents,

We would like to welcome you and your child to Yorkville Preschool.  We are looking forward to an exciting new year with your child.  We plan to teach them many things they will need in preparation for kindergarten and we know they will teach us many things about development, behavior, and learning styles!

I, Vicki Huey, am the teacher of the preschool.  If you have any concerns or messages of any kind, feel free to relay these messages to me.  If you have any questions or need to talk to me about your child’s progress, please call Yorkville School.

We follow the school calendar of the Gibson County School District.  If there are other days preschool will not meet we will notify you.  For holidays and special occasions, we will have snacks and party foods.  If your child would like to bring special treats for these times, or if you would like to have a birthday party, just let us know ahead of time.  We really enjoy planning for these days!!!

We will never spank a child at preschool.  We believe acceptable behavior is encouraged by giving positive verbal rewards.  This reinforces a child’s good feeling about his or her behavior and serves as an example to other children to act in such a way to receive praise.  Asking a child to stop and think about his or her behavior enables that child to work at self-control.

Our Discipline Plan:

1.      Verbal correction-The child will be asked to stop and consider what he or she is doing.

2.     Change of scenery-The child will be asked to move beside a teacher or will be asked to move to a different activity.

3.     Time-Out-This will be given in a chair facing the wall.

4.     Parent conference.

Part of our curriculum will consist of “The Letter People.”  This curriculum integrates letter recognition through song and various activities.  Each week we will be learning about a special letter person.  We will also have a special child from our class each week.  During the week your child is chosen, I will send home a note.  You can send anything about their life (special toys, pictures, etc.).  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!

                                                        Thanks,

                                                         Mrs. Vicki
