Welcome to the exciting and fast paced world of Family and Consumer Science!
What is Family and Consumer Science?
"Adulting"  is a common term among the millennial generation, the term was nominated by the American Dialect
Society as the most creative word of 2015.
Family and Consumer Science or Human Studies is the modern cluster of classes that were once "home economics".
Today "adulting" is a great way to explain what Family and Consumer Science encompasses.
Students engage in a variety of courses and activities in room 163 that range from cooking, crafting, and public speaking to child
development, decision making and setting S.M.A.R.T. goals. Students will learn life skills, develop leadership characteristics, and begin
exploring attributes of an employability skill set. FACS focuses on career pathways and post secondary opportunities for advancement.
    Preparation for "adulting" happens here.
WARNING: Students will experience personal growth and maturity in this FACS classroom.
FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) formerly FHA, is the student organization for Family and Consumer Science. FCCLA focuses on the FAMILY unit being the basis of society;'s structure and developing young leaders.
South Gibson students have been extremely successful in FCCLA.  Students have competed on district, state and national levels.
