Board Members

Mrs. Dana Welch

I have lived in the Yorkville community for most of my entire life. I started kindergarten at Yorkville, graduated from Yorkville Junior High in 1985, and then from Gibson County High School in 1989. In 1990, I married Mike Welch and we purchased a house and made our home in Yorkville. We have two children, Maddie and Rebecca. While working full-time, I attended college at night and obtained both a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Business Administration at Union University completing my education history.

I have been employed at Komatsu America Corp. in Ripley TN since 1992. During this time, I have held various roles: managing supplier and customer collaboration, inventory management, and currently I am the Director of Business Integration. My experience in the workplace provides me with valuable knowledge of the expectations that employers will have of students as they begin in the workplace.

Gibson County Special School District has an excellent school system that we should all be proud of. Our teachers and administrators have accomplished unprecedented results in recent years. As we prepare for our tomorrow, it is critical that our board continues to recognize the changing needs of students and should strive to prepare them for the higher expectations they will face in college and/or the workplace. This is my passion for our school district.

I am very proud of my own education at the Gibson County Special School District and want to ensure that we continue the strong tradition of quality education for generations to come. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve.

Mrs. Treva Maitland

My husband Greg and I moved to the Spring Hill community when our boys, Syler and Sydney, were 2 years old in 1995. Since 2000, I have worked for The Arc Tennessee in Nashville as the Lead Project Specialist serving students, families, and educators from Middle to West TN as an advocate, trainer, and consultant providing technical assistance for the education of students with disabilities. Find more information at www.thearctn.org. Another parent and I organized a Parent Leadership and Advocacy group to empower other families in our area and have created a nonprofit organization to serve more local students, families, and educators called Coach Masters.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Master's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from the University of Tennessee at Martin where I serve as an Adjunct Professor in Family and Consumer Sciences and Special Education.

I love the idea of small community schools and believe lifelong education is one of the most important priorities in our lives.
  • I believe that board members must work collaboratively and be strong advocates of high-quality public education for all Gibson County Special School District students.
  • I believe public schools must meet the individual educational needs of all students regardless of their ability, race, creed, sex, or socioeconomic standing.
  • I believe that the school board's responsibilities include policy-making, educational and financial planning, and evaluation along with community involvement.
For many years, I've served on boards locally, statewide, and nationally, but I hold serving the students and citizens of Gibson County as the locally elected school board member near and dear to my heart.

Children are our future, and we owe them our absolute best. (rev Dec 2016)

I was born in Huntingdon, TN, and lived there until graduating high school. Then I obtained a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and went into the highway construction industry primarily building bridges. I am currently Vice-President of Britton Bridge, LLC.

My wife Debbie and I have two children in the Gibson County Special School District. Hayden is a sophomore at South Gibson, and Sarah Grace, a seventh-grader at Medina Middle School. We have lived in Medina for over 10 years. I think our youth is our most valuable resource. I am been very active in our community‘s youth athletics. I have coached many sports and also been on the board of directors for the Medina Baseball Association and the City of Medina Parks & Recreation.

I am very passionate about all students having the best education that can be provided. I have a strong desire to see our school system excel in all areas of education. Our job on the board is to make sure this happens, by providing the best resources needed and in the safest environment for our children. I will work very hard to accomplish this task.

Mr. Tom Lannom, Chairman

Serving the youth of this area has always been a passion of mine. My wife, Brandy, and I live in Dyer with our girls, Erin and Ashton. I attended and received my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Freed Hardeman University. I have been very active serving the youth in the community for the past 20 yrs by serving on the local baseball board, local parent-teacher organization (PTO), and preparing community youth events.

I believe Gibson County School District provides the best and safest learning environment around. I believe we are fortunate to have a great staff of administrators and teachers whose standard of teaching second to none. I believe along with a great staff, parental support is key to a successful school system.

As a trustee, I encourage feedback from parents and members of the community to be given. It is our board responsibility to help provide the education and tools our students will be able to use in the next step of their life whether it be college or work. I hope by serving on the board I can give back to the system that provided me with a quality education in my life.
