The Mural Art Club will have its first informational/interest meeting for the 2023-2024 school year this Friday 8/25 in the Art Room (195). Any student who is interested in learning more about the Mural Art Club and getting the chance to leave your permanent mark on the school building should attend this meeting. You are not required to have completed or be currently enrolled in an art class to join the Mural Art Club, so if you think it might interest you, please come to the meeting on Friday!

Lady Hornets Volleyball lost a hard-fought battle against Milan Friday night, losing 3-2. We want to thank those who came to support us, and we hope you continue to come. Games stats: Karlie Clarke had 8 kills, 5 aces, and 7 digs; Sydney Scott had 4 kills, 2 aces, and 24 digs; Calyn Rich and Braydie had 2 block assists; Addison Flowers and had 2 kills, 1 ace, and 36 digs; Bella Suiter had 22 digs and 9 assists. The Lady Hornets play at USJ today and Home vs Dyer Co. tomorrow for another district match.

FFA will hold their fall cookout tomorrow after school. There will be food, games, and fellowship. Anyone in an ag class this semester or next semester and have paid your FFA dues is eligible to attend. You can sign up on the board outside Mr. Mills room.

School picture day for grades 9-11 will be Tuesday, August 22nd. We will also be taking golf, cross country, and girls soccer individual and team photos on this day.

Beta Members: You may now begin paying your Beta dues for the new school year!
Sophomores who qualified for Beta should have received a letter from their 1st block teacher. Sophomore new member Beta dues are $25. Sophomores with the last name of A-L will pay their dues to Mrs. Matamoros. Sophomores with the last names M-Z should pay dues to Mrs. Hurmiz.
Returning Beta member dues are $15. Seniors should pay dues to Mrs. Matamoros, and Juniors should pay dues to Mrs. Hurmiz. All Beta fees are due by Friday, September 8th. No late membership dues will be accepted. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Matamoros or Mrs. Hurmiz!

Congratulations to the boys and girls golf teams. The girls won the FCA tournament yesterday at Jackson Country Club. Marleigh Chicantek finished second overall shooting a 77. The boys finished runner-up shooting a 306 as a team.

Sydney Scott had 7 kills. Bella Suiter had 16 assists, 8 kills, and 23 digs. Mary Jones had 11 service points. Ava Holifield had 3 aces, and Karlie Clarke had a solo block. South Gibson county’s Theatre department is excited to announce our audition dates for our fall play, The Play that Goes Wrong. Auditions will be held after school on August 21 and 22, with callbacks being on the 23. Audition forms, requirements, and character lists are on the Theatre board located in the cafeteria hallway. We are also excited for our freshmen interest meeting that will be held tomorrow during focus time, and for our first theatre meeting on Wednesday. We look forward to discovering this year’s new stars! Break a leg everyone!

On Saturday, the cross country team started its season with a jamboree at Union. Jonathan Lewis placed 2nd out of 150 runners. Congratulations  to Jonathan and the rest of the cross country team on a great first meet.

Congratulations to the boys' golf team on their win over South Side and Dyer County yesterday. They tied a school record shooting a 4 over 144 as a team. Lane Carr was medalist shooting 1 under 34. Also, congratulations to Marleigh Chicantek for earning medalist honors for the girls. Marleigh shot 3 over 38.

This is a reminder that if you are absent or late to school and have an excuse to turn in, the excuse must be turned in within 5 days of your return to school. The excuses should be turned into the clear box under the large sliding window that is located near to nurses station in the main office. Notes turned in after 5 days will not be accepted.

Do you have an interest in soil science? FFA soil judging kicks off practice this week after school. If you are interested in digging up opportunities with FFA, this is the contest for you. See Mr. Mills or an FFA officer to get started.

If you plan to get your permit, you will need to request your compulsory attendance form from the counseling office. Forms are only printed on Thursdays each week so keep that in mind when you request it.

The volleyball team has a scrimmage Monday at Milan at 4:00 and Tuesday home vs TCA at 5:30. Come out and support your Lady Hornets Volleyball team!

Today is the last day to sign up for the September ACT and not pay a late registration fee. Go to myact.org to sign up.

Lost and found items are kept in the library media center. If you have lost something this year, please check the media center for the item.

Students, please remember if you need to check out at any time during the day, you must have a note from a parent or guardian to leave campus. If you do not have note with you prior to arriving at school, your parent or guardian will need to come to the main office and request for you to be checked out. Phone calls, emails, text, and faxes will not be accepted. Additionally, you MUST come to the office to scan the checking-out QR code, and an office worker must verify that the submission was complete before you leave campus. You may not just leave without coming to the office to check-out.
