SGCMS will have new student registration on June 24th, July 14th and July 16th by appointment. Please read the information below carefully to determine if you need to make an appointment:
In order to better serve you during the new student registration process, parents are asked to make an appointment prior to registering new students at SGCMS during the summer. Please select a 20 minute appointment and provide us with your contact details. If a parent has multiple children, only one appointment will be required for registration. Please bring your child's birth certificate, social security card, immunization records, and two proofs of residency. If you would like your child to tour the building, we will work to accommodate this immediately after your registration is complete.
PLEASE NOTE: Students joining us from SGCES as 5th graders do not need to make an appointment for registration, as this information will roll over. Please do not schedule an appointment if your child is a rising 5th grader.
PLEASE NOTE: This appointment system is only for students who will be attending South Gibson County Middle School. If your child will be in K-4 or 9-12, please do not make a reservation, as your child will not be attending South Gibson County Middle School.

Today, SGCMS celebrated the conclusion of the successful completion of our first year of our house program. Our winning chapter, Backdraft, from the Fire house, took a field trip to Sky Zone today to celebrate their year long's accomplishment. Our winning house, the Earth house, was treated to Italian Ice in our front parking lot. We are so grateful for our PTO and community sponsors who helped us launch this undertaking!

Congrats to 5th grade student Madelyn Isley, who won the 2025 Gibson County "Why Is Agriculture Important?" essay contest! Last night, Madelyn read her essay at the monthly Gibson County Farm Bureau meeting and received her prize money. Madelyn's essay will now move on to the state contest!

Our band and color guard students had an amazing trip this past weekend to Six Flags in St. Louis! The band also competed in the "Music in the Parks" competition and won first place in their class! These students work so hard all year long to put on performances for our school community, and we are so proud of them!

Students in Mrs. Byrd's class have been presenting their STEAM Career Research Project. Students spent nearly two weeks on this project. Students completed an interest inventory to select a career that fell under a STEAM category - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, or Mathematics. Students then completed research questions and a source page. While completing research, students were required to refer to the SGCHS Student Handbook to inquire about classes that could help prepare them for the career they selected. Next, students had to create a realistic budget based on the starting salary for their career in Tennessee. Finally, students created and presented a presentation to the class. Many careers were explored such as a civil engineer, medical scientist, marine biologist, software developer, and an anesthesiologist.

Thank you to Centennial Bank for partnering with 7th graders at SGCMS to teach students about jobs in banking and job preparedness skills each quarter. Students always enjoy their swag and “rewards” for their participation!

Each quarter in Career Awareness at SGCMS students prepare a resume and work to participate in Mock Interviews with community partners. Students are practicing their interview questions and preparing for their upcoming interviews.

Thank you to Tennessee Highway Patrol for partnering with SGCMS 7th graders each quarter. Trooper Chris Jones speaks to students about careers in law enforcement, making wise choices, and planning for their futures. The students enjoy seeing his vehicle and special equipment as well.

Thank you to Leaders Credit Union and Mr. Shea Brown for working to teach 8th graders at SGCMS about the real world of budgeting. He took time to lead students through a financial simulation in Career Awareness. Students were assigned a career, spouse, and child and then chose food, housing, transportation, etc. to attempt to have a balanced budget for one month.

On Tuesday, May 13th, 8th grade students will hand in their school issued laptops. Please make sure your student brings their laptop, case, and charger. Any stickers or writing on the laptops should be removed to avoid a fine.

There will be an informational meeting for all parents of students who plan to participate in any SGCMS athletic program during the 2025-2026 school year on May 12th at 6 p.m. at SGCMS. Coaches will be introduced and available for your questions. There will be an opportunity to join the Athletic Booster Club as well, so be sure to bring cash/check/or card if interested in early bird discount pricing!

Did you miss your chance to buy a yearbook in pervious years? Here is your chance to do so at a fraction of the cost.

If any current 8th graders are interested in running cross country next year at SGCHS, please go pick up an informational packet in the front office.

As a reminder, softball tryouts will be tomorrow and Thursday from 3:30 to 5:15 at the middle/high school softball field.
