This week was Read Across America Week! To celebrate, several of our ELA teachers took their students outside read and relax, while enjoying the beautiful weather. Students were encouraged to bring books they could dive into. We appreciate our ELA giving their students time to foster their love of reading.

Career Technical Education is happening at SGCMS! Thank you to Mr. Holland Hilton for bringing his expertise and equipment to 6th grade students in Mrs. Malone's Career Exploration classes. Mr. Hilton is an Industrial Superintendent and Welder with Radius Industrial and is the father of Drake Hilton.

Students in Career Exploration were visited by two different speakers recently. First, Ms. Lindsey Ferrell spoke to 7th grade students about her career pathway in business that involved different careers in business that led her to happiness and fulfillment as a property manager at Premier Rentals and an additional role in real estate and development.
She is the mother of our 7th grade student, Catherine Ferrell.
Students in 8th grade were visited by Dr. Amanda Gibbs, who is the mother of Mackenzie Gibbs who is an 8th grader at SGCMS. Dr. Gibbs is in the process of completing her doctoral degree in pediatric acute and primary care. She talked to students about the pathway for nursing and the various places nurses can work.

SGCMS wants to wish a happy School Counselor Appreciation week to Mrs. Adams and Mrs. McGhee. Thanks for all that you do for our students!

We wanted to provide an update regarding Daddy Daughter Dance. We want this event to be special every year that we host it. Given the circumstances, it does not feel responsible for us to try and get all of the registrations, preparations, and decorations done by this Friday and Saturday. We are rescheduling the event to Friday, February 20th for middle school and Saturday, February 21st for elementary school. Time slot for each group will stay the same.
With this, we are also extending the registration deadline to Wednesday, February 18th. This is such an important event for our community, and we are trying our best to make sure it is special for our students and their loved ones - we appreciate your understanding! If you have any questions, please email rbateman@gcssd.org.
