GCSSD will receive TNReady scores on May 28, 2021. Your students TNReady score is added as a part of their Q4 grade. The score will only be added to the students grade if the score will improve the students overall grade. Teachers will be adding those scores to the gradebook on or before June 4, 2021. Grades will then be finalized and report cards will be posted via PowerSchool Parent Portal on June 7, 2021.
Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine has recently been approved for ages 12 to 15. Prior to this it was only available for those above age 16. The Pfizer vaccine is the only vaccine approved for the 12-15 age group.
The Gibson County Health Department will offer a Pfizer vaccine clinic on Friday, May 14, at the Gibson County Fairgrounds from 8:30 to 10:30 am. Appointments can be made through the website Vaccinate.tn.gov
If unable to make an appointment at the Fairground Clinic individuals may also schedule an appointment with the Health Department or other local vaccine provider by visiting covid19.tn.gov or VaccineFinder.org. Individuals under age 18 should select a Pfizer vaccine appointment time.

The GCSSD School Board approved the continuation of off campus learning Fridays for the remainder of the 2020-21 SY. Friday meal delivery/pick-up will also continue for the remainder of the school year.

Off campus learning Friday will be moved to tomorrow, Monday 2/22/21. Students will attend in-person Tuesday - Friday of this week. All GCSSD staff will report to their local school tomorrow. We understand that most roads throughout Gibson County are passable however there are still many backroads that are difficult to navigate with a bus. The safety of our staff and students is top priority. Moving off-campus learning from Friday to Monday of this week will allow the roads to clear completely. We will be continuing to offer meal delivery on Friday’s due to the extension of off-campus learning. A meal request must be submitted each week by Thursday at 12:00 noon to ensure a meal delivery on Friday by completing the online meal survey or by contacting the school cafeteria manager. Important GCSSD Updates!
The GCSSD school board voted at the last board meeting to continue off-campus learning Fridays for the month of January. Continued off-campus Friday learning will be revisited and reassessed during the January board meeting.
The GCSSD school board will have an open forum to discuss Junior High basketball consolidation on the north end. The meeting will take place on January 10th at 2:00 in the GCHS auditorium.
The Tennessee Department of Health has released updated guidance on releasing cases and contacts from isolation and quarantine regarding COVID-19. Please click the link to review the full guidance. The list below is a summary of the changes:
NON-HOUSEHOLD CONTACTS Non-household contacts must be quarantined after exposure to a case, regardless of whether the case was symptomatic. TDH and CDC recommend a 14-day quarantine. Acceptable alternatives to a 14-day quarantine include:
• after Day 10 (returning to regular activities on Day 11) without testing if the contact does not have symptoms.
• after Day 7 (returning to regular activities on Day 8) if the contact does not have symptoms and if they test negative by a PCR or antigen (rapid) test collected after Day 5. Continue to self-monitor for symptoms and wear a face mask through Day 14.
• If they go the route of getting a negative PCR or antigen (rapid) test, we will need proof of that test to allow them back before the 10 days are up.

According to guidelines set forth by the TN Department of Health, COVID-19 testing refers to SARS-CoV-2 PCR. Negative antigen (rapid tests), and antibody tests are not approved for return to school.
We have been instructed NOT to accept a Rapid negative COVID test for school return. Notify your healthcare provider that we do not accept Rapid COVID tests.
Also, diagnoses of respiratory and viral conditions such as allergic rhinitis, seasonal allergies, upper respiratory tract infection (URI), pneumonia, pharyngitis without positive strep test, etc., DO NOT exclude the diagnosis of COVID-19 and DO NOT justify return to school.
